Buyers get chance to “awaken sleeping giant” in landmark Worcestershire hotel

The landmark Hundred House Hotel in Worcestershire has been placed on the market by owners after the recession has bitten hard into residency rates.

Potential buyers are being given the chance to awaken a “sleeping giant” by hotels director of Colliers Peter Brunt, who said that “the present ownership and management partnership have enjoyed excellent trading conditions over the past 12 years”, but the current climate has hit profits hard.

“The effect of the recession on trade and the need for modernisation and improvement has led to a reluctant decision to sell,” he added.

“The business itself is now at a crossroads and after much consideration the decision has been taken to sell the hotel and give others the opportunity to take advantage of this sleeping giant.”

Located in Malvern Hills, the hotel has been marketed at a £750,000 threshold and offers potential buyers the chance to own a picturesque hotel with plenty of history.

Alongside the 27 letting bedrooms and a manager’s flat there are flexible banqueting facilities. The lounge bar seats around 50 with a further 25 covers in the adjoining dining room. The Abberley Suite has its own private bar servery and can dine up to 130.

There is a three-bedroom flat comprising lounge, kitchen, bathroom, double bedroom and two single rooms available for a resident manager or owner. The main building has accommodation arranged over ground and two upper floors over cellars.

Potential owners will grab a property set in the heart of an iconic road network, linking Stourport, Kidderminster, Droitwich, Worcester, Tenbury Wells and Bromyard and this location and rich history is why hotels director Peter Brunt thinks the Grade II listed hotel has enormous potential.

“Hundred House dates back to the 17th Century and was where those living in the Donnington Hundred came to pay their tithes. It was later used as the local court house where guilty parties were led to face the gallows on the green opposite.
