Classic Lodges hotel group has submitted an application to build 60 holiday lodges on the estate at Grinkle Park.
The development will also see the restoration of the Grade II listed hotel and the reintroduction of its caravan site. Two new lakes will also be created to complement the site’s existing water feature.
The accommodation will range from one to six-room properties and most of it will be built on unused plantation. It will cost £5m to develop.
Richard Grimes, managing director of Classic Lodges, said: “Grinkle Park is a four-star country house hotel employing up to 75 local people across the estate.
“It is also one of the county’s pre-eminent wedding venues with fabulous gardens, so the development would enhance and extend what is already a premium offering.”
Mike Hodgson, chair of Loftus Town Council, said that the council welcomed “opportunities for the development of tourism and facilities for visitors”. He also added that the construction would encourage the employment of local people.
“We look forward to formally reviewing and commenting on this proposal,” he said.
