Edinburgh hotel creates unique dorm for guest groups

A hotel in the Scottish capital has created a dorm bedroom designed specifically for large groups of guests who want to share every experience of their trip.

Central Hotel in Edinburgh’s Cowgate has created a bedroom that can sleep up to nine people, designed to give parties of friends or family quality accommodation at hostel prices.

Besides a full-size ping pong table, each of the beds in the stylish loft-style apartment has a television built into the headboard. There is also a freestanding fridge stocked with beers and wine, while the bathroom has two separate showers, two WCs and three sinks.

General manager of the Central Hotel Donal Hurrell said the room has been designed with style and a sense of humour.

“This room is about as far away as you could get from people’s idea of a dorm or a hostel bedroom,” said Hurrell.

“We wanted to create a bedroom that allows large groups who are visiting Edinburgh to stay together – letting them to share their experience throughout their time in the city, rather than ending when everyone goes to their individual bedrooms.

“But with the Central Hotel being bang in the city centre, and with our world famous The Three Sisters bar below it, we know the room will also appeal to stag and hen parties that are such an important part of Edinburgh’s tourism and hospitality trade.

“But equally, the room should catch the attention of wedding parties, large families or other groups of travellers who are often put off by the high cost of having to book three or four rooms.”
