The quarterly National B&B Index from Eviivo, online booking specialists, shows a surge in B&B bookings for the Christmas period.
Christmas Day bookings on average have more than doubled year-on-year, up by 111.3%.
The regions proved to be performing well on Christmas Eve, the strongest performing area for which was Scotland, with like-for-like bookings up 30%.
Forward bookings for the Christmas period (defined as 16-24 December) were up across the UK with particularly strong regional performances coming from Scotland showing an increase of 36.4%, North East England up by 13.7% and South West England showing a growth of 7.1%.
Eviivo’s quarterly National B&B Index analyses booking and forward booking data from more than 6,600 subscribing B&Bs across the UK.
Ruth Whitehead, director at Eviivo, said: “Christmas is a mandatory family occasion, but staying under one roof with our in-laws can make us feel a bit like simmering Christmas puddings. B&Bs are a useful, comfortable valve for the emotional pressure cooker of the holiday season.”
