A fire that broke out at the Cameron House hotel in Balloch has left three hospitalised and two dead, according to an STV news report.
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 6.44am today to attend an incident at the Cameron House Hotel. We dispatched four ambulances, our special operations response team and the trauma team to the scene.
“Three patients, two adults and one child, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. A fourth patient was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital.”
The STV news report stated one person was pronounced dead following the blaze and the other passed away in hospital.
Some 40 firefighters and 12 firengines arrived to the scene at Cameron House after the alarm was raised at 6.41am.
Firefighters worked in difficult conditions while wearing breathing apparatusm, using high powered hoses to tackle the flames.
David McGown, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s assistant chief officer and incident commander, said: “Our deepest condolences are with everyone who has been affected by this morning’s tragic events.
“This is deeply distressing news for everyone involved, and our thoughts are with the friends and families of the two individuals who have passed away.
“Our firefighters worked quickly and professionally in extremely difficult circumstances to bring this fire under control and prevent further fire spread – their response has been outstanding and they must be commended for their actions.
“The fire has now been brought under control however we will remain on scene for some time, and our priority now is ensuring that the area is made safe.”
Investigations on how the fire started are still ongoing.
