Lynford Hall Hotel has been brought to market for offers in the region of £5.25m, as its owners look to focus on other business interests.
The site is a Grade-II listed country house hotel set in 24 acres in the heart of Thetford Forest, the UK’s largest man-made lowland forest.
It features 38 en-suite guest bedrooms and an array of public areas, including a 450-cover banqueting suite, events rooms, restaurant and bar. It is described as an “ideal” venue for weddings and events, albeit trade has been scaled back considerably in recent years in readiness for this sale.
Planning permission has now been secured to redevelop its east wing, which was destroyed by a fire in the 1920s, with further function suites and a leisure centre. There is also permission to develop 68 lodges in its grounds.
The original property dates back to the mid-19th Century when it was constructed as a private residence for the wealthy Lyne-Stephens family. It has passed through several owners and uses over the years.
It became a hotel in the 1960s and was even used as a filming location for several much-loved BBC TV shows including Allo Allo and Dads Army.
Paul Barrasford from Colliers’ Hotel Agency team, who is handling the sale, said: “We expect to receive interest from a wide range of buyers, whether its hotel investors looking to extend their current brand offering or even developers looking to create a new scheme.
“The hotel could also be an ideal senior living scheme, educational establishment, company HQ or simply a stunning country residence.”
