Marriott International has announced the appointment of Ken Millar as general manager of W Edinburgh effective from December 2022.
Millar originally hails from the West of Scotland and is delighted to be launching this new iconic hotel in the heart of Edinburgh’s new St James Quarter.
The firm said that Millar brings an “impressive wealth of experience and extensive knowledge” of the luxury hospitality industry with him, most recently as general manager at Renaissance Amsterdam, where he also held the role of Business Council Leader for the Benelux.
Whilst in this role he was awarded Archers Hotels GM of the Year for 2019. Prior to his role in Amsterdam, he spent two years at Renaissance Barcelona, also leading the Spanish Business Council during his time there.
With more than 30 years’ experience in the industry, he has also held GM and leadership roles in various properties in Turkey, Hong Kong, Burma and Beijing and closer to home including time at Turnberry Hotel and Golf Resort as director and general manager.
Millar said: ‘I’m excited to be returning to Scotland to spearhead this landmark Edinburgh opening next year. W Hotels embraces originality and curiosity, very much in the spirit and character of the city, and W Edinburgh is set to be an authentic destination for locals and visitors to connect and be inspired.”
Set to open in late 2023, the W Edinburgh will mark W Hotel’s debut in Scotland. The hotel is set to welcome guests and diners into a “daring and original space” designed by Jestico + Whiles.
