IHG appoints new non-executive director

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

InterContinental Hotels Group has announced the appointment of Sir Ron Kalifa as its non-executive director, effective 1 January 2024.

The appointment reflects IHG’s ongoing commitment to bring together a board of directors with a “diverse range of talent, expertise, skills and experience”.

In his new role, Kalifa will serve on the audit committee and remuneration committee.

Klaifa is currently chair of Network International, payments operator across the Middle East and Africa, and non-executive director and senior independent director on the court of directors at the Bank of England.

Prior to this, Kalifa was the chief executive officer at Worldpay from 2002 to 2013 before becoming deputy chair until February 2020.

Between 1986 and 2002, Kalifa held leadership roles across operations, sales and marketing and eCommerce at the Royal Bank of Scotland (now NatWest Group plc).

Kalifa is also an independent non-executive director on the board of the England and Wales Cricket board, a trustee of the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales, and a member of the council of Imperial College, London.

Deanna Oppenheimer, non-executive chair of IHG, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ron to IHG. Ron has significant international leadership experience from a broad career across technology-led companies. He brings a wealth of knowledge across strategy, sales, marketing and operations. His skills, expertise and perspectives will further strengthen our board.”
