Britannia Hotels has revealed that pre-tax profits have risen 18% to £39.3m during the year to 31 March 2023, with group turnover also rising 31.3% to £154.7m.
Britannia has attributed its performance to sales increasing over 30% for the year, in what was “a period of difficult trading conditions”.
The Cheshire-based hotel chain, which has been ranked as the worst in the UK for 11 consecutive years, has also increased its staff total from 1,818 to 2,365.
It follows the group’s decision to dismiss almost 1,000 employees in the year to March 2021.
In the Companies House statement, the board said: “The directors remain confident that the company is in a good position to meet the challenges and opportunities of the future.
“The hotels have managed to maintain their competitive edge through the economic downturn and continue to take steps designed to attract new business and improve market share going forward.”
In November 2023, Britannia Hotels was named the worst chain in the UK for the 11th year in a row in Which?’s annual survey of more than 5,000 respondents.
Britannia Hotels was founded in 1976 and operates more than 60 sites across the UK, and also owns Pontins.
