Swinton Estate appoints new GM

Paul Hunter was previously the general manager of boutique hotel No. 1 York

The Swinton Estate has announced that Paul Hunter will take on the role of general manager in late Spring.

Hunter will join Swinton Estate from his current role as general manager of the boutique hotel, No. 1 York.  Prior to this, he held roles including director of operations for Principal York (IHG) and area general manager for Criterion Hospitality, overseeing hotels in London.

The general manager will be responsible for leisure business across the Swinton Estate and will work as part of the executive leadership team.

His remit includes Swinton Park Hotel – with its fine-dining experience Chef’s Table by Josh Barnes, classic British Samuel’s Restaurant and Terrace Restaurant and Bar – and Swinton Country Club, which offers spa treatments, fitness and wellness experiences to hotel and day guests.

He will also oversee Swinton Bivouac, a glamping site with tree lodges and meadow yurts, and holiday cottages across the estate.

A half a million-pound installation of a brand-new, state of the art kitchen has just been completed for Samuel’s Restaurant, with the latest technology helping drive down energy usage. The restaurant itself has recently been refurbished, and recruitment is underway to recruit a new head chef.

The Swinton team also has ambitions of securing Michelin and AA culinary awards across its dining establishments, including the new Chef’s Table experience being hosted in the Cookery School.

Sustainability is very high on the agenda for the leisure operations, too, with many initiatives already in place to minimise energy usage and reduce the carbon footprint. The hotel has attained Gold Standard in Green Tourism and received the AA Hospitality Sustainable Business Award.

Regarding his appointment, Hunter said: “I am excited and proud to be joining the team at Swinton Estate. I greatly admire what Swinton stands for and what has been achieved so far.

“I am thoroughly looking forward to working with the team as we focus on delivering an amazing and unforgettable leisure experience for our guests and visitors, whilst ensuring sustainability and our community are at the forefront of our minds.”
