Schloss Roxburghe, a historic manor house located in the countryside of the Scottish borders, has expanded its family-friendly offering with the introduction of a new kids’ club, farm shop and 39 new self-catering cottages within its 300-acre grounds.
Part of the Destination by Hyatt collection, Schloss Roxburghe has gone through a series of “transformative” renovations in the last couple of years.
This started with the introduction of the modern Estate House, with 58 rooms and suites that more than doubled the hotel’s room capacity. The hotel also opened its 1100 sqm Schloss Spa (the first outdoor spa in the Scottish Borders), as well as a new ‘Scottish bistronomy’ restaurant Charlie’s; and the first 12 two-bedroom cottages as part of the hotel’s self-catering offering.
This summer, the hotel launched a Kio Kids’ Club, set in a newly-built cottage surrounded by nature and adjacent woodland for the “ultimate mix” of indoor and outdoor activity.
Based on the new children’s book Kio, Everything in Flow, written exclusively for the hotel by author Sophia Brucklacher, the kids’ club teaches children about sustainable practices and environmental awareness.
Kio Kids’ Club is open Wednesday to Sunday (9.30am – 5.00pm) for children aged 4-12, with four pre-bookable activity sessions a day. Kio Kids’ Club features three different indoor areas: Green Room for play and creation, Blue Room for relaxation and Pink Room for play and learning.
Activities include, kids’ yoga, nature walks, arts and crafts, making bug houses, wildlife spotting, music and movement, painting and movie time.
Also new to the grounds is the Estate Market, a farm shop designed to provide the essentials, as well as luxury gifts, clothing and produce, to guests staying in self-catering cottages.
Open seven days a week (7.30am – 6pm), the Estate Market will stock everything from fresh fruit and vegetables, locally-sourced meat and fish and baked goods sourced from batch bakeries to beer, wine and cider, gifts and accessories, toiletries and clothing (including luxurious local wool and cashmere).
Additionally, for Summer 2024, the hotel has expanded its accommodation offering, with a further 39 cottages set in the woodlands of the Roxburghe estate, bringing the total number of cottages to 51.
The new cottages feature modern kitchens, “sumptuous” furnishings, Molton Brown toiletries and freestanding baths or rainfall showers, with some offering in-built saunas.
Bruno De Schuyter, general manager at Schloss Roxburghe, said: “We’re delighted to introduce Kio Kids’ Club, the Estate Market and new self-catering cottages to the Schloss Roxburghe estate. These new additions to our facilities create a perfect home-from-home environment for those wanting a self-catering stay, from golfers to families, and reflect our ongoing commitment to creating a relaxing, enriching stay for all our guests.”
