The Watergate Bay Hotel in Newquay, Cornwall has submitted a planning application to build twelve new beach lofts and redevelop an old hotel site into apartments.
The project would see the former Tregurrian Hotel site in Watergate Bay transformed into a new five- or six-storey building.
The new development would include eight holiday apartments, a gym, studio, treatment rooms, restaurant and a wellbeing area for hotel staff.
Furthermore, a new two-storey building would also be constructed to house 12 new beach lofts.
The hotel first submitted a planning application for the development in May 2023 which was then withdrawn to allow time for issues raised to be addressed.
Will Ashworth, founder and executive director of Watergate Bay Hotel, said: “Over the last few months we’ve really listened to our neighbours, partners and local community. Their views have helped evolve our vision, which will secure the sustainability and accessibility of Watergate Bay for the future – as well as maximise enjoyment of the Bay for everyone.
“Minimising environmental impact has been front of mind throughout. We’ve supported the resubmission of our plans with more information on ecology, flood and stormwater management, and pedestrian road safety. This is about protecting, enhancing and future-proofing the Bay. Sharing our revised plans and moving things forward with a planning application is an exciting milestone.”
