The Stafford Collection has announced the promotion of John McLean to the role of managing director following his appointment as general manager back in May 2024.
In his new role as managing director, McLean will oversee the entire portfolio, which includes The Stafford London, Northcote, a boutique hotel with a Michelin star restaurant situated on the edge of the stunning Ribble Valley, and Norma, a restaurant which is inspired by the food and culture of Sicily located in Fitzrovia, London.
He has over two decades of experience in the luxury hospitality sector and before joining the Stafford Collection in 2024, he held numerous leadership roles including interim general manager at The Cadogan Hotel in Chelsea. He has also previously worked as hotel manager and interim general manager of Brown’s Hotel London, and executive head of F&B of The Lanesborough.
He is also a Springboard ambassador and a fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, and the Institute of Hospitality in the UK. His leadership has guided teams to earn distinguished honours, including the Forbes Five Star Award.
The board of directors at the Stafford Collection said: “John’s vast industry knowledge, and leadership skills have made him a vital part of our team. In the short time he has been at The Stafford London, we have been impressed with his vision and commercial expertise. We are thrilled to see him take on this new role and we look forward to seeing the direction he will lead the Stafford Collection over the coming years.”
Reflecting on his promotion, McLean added: “I am deeply honoured to step into the role of Managing Director at the Stafford Collection and oversee the entire portfolio. Over the past seven months, it has been a privilege to collaborate with the exceptionally talented teams behind these iconic and storied properties. It is an even greater privilege to now lead these remarkable teams as we continue to celebrate the heritage of our properties while steering the portfolio towards an exciting and dynamic future.
“On a personal note, this opportunity holds special significance for me. My journey in London began over 30 years ago, right here at The Stafford London, where I worked as a chef. Returning now, it has been truly heartwarming to reconnect with familiar faces from those early days. I am excited and inspired by the road ahead and look forward to contributing to the continued success of this extraordinary collection.”
