Crerar Hotels has appointed Dayle Nicoll as general manager of Balmoral Arms, its traditional country inn located in the royal town of Ballater.

Nicoll brings 15 years of hospitality experience to the role, having worked at several of Scotland’s best-known hotels and resorts.

He was previously operations manager at Carnoustie Golf Hotel and Spa, where he supported a £3m investment programme and helped deliver events including The Open and the Senior Open.

He has also held positions at Malmaison Hotels and the Invercarse Hotel. Additionally, in 2018, Nicoll worked at Dunkeld House Hotel, which Crerar Hotels acquired last year.

Balmoral Arms, formerly the Deeside Inn, reopened in 2022 following a £2.2m refurbishment. The property is located near Balmoral Castle, the royal family’s Scottish residence.

Nicoll said: “Balmoral Arms is a beautiful property located within one of the most historical towns in Scotland, and close to the royal residence, so I am incredibly honoured to step into the role of general manager here, and I’m looking forward to working with the team who make this place so special.

“I’ll be working closely with the entire Crerar Hotels team as well as my colleagues within the hotel to ensure all guests continue to receive the excellent customer service that the group is renowned for and the cosy country welcome that Balmoral Arms is known for.”
