The Albert Hotel, a long-standing hotel in Kirkwall, Orkney, has completed a major 12-room expansion after securing seven-figure funding from the Royal Bank of Scotland.

The funding has allowed the hotel to add 12 rooms, and move its reception and public areas to a more accessible roadside location. The work was finished in July and the new facilities are now open to guests.

The business, which has operated for more than 20 years, said the investment will also help it meet growing demand for accommodation in Orkney, particularly during the peak summer season.

Tourism is estimated to contribute £114m annually to the island economy, according to Destination Orkney. The expansion includes modern, boutique-style rooms with luxury furnishings.

Dawn Flett, owner and director of the Albert Hotel, said: “Our hotel has been a vital part of the Kirkwall community for over 20 years and we’re delighted to have a banking partner that can both see our vision for the future and help us get there.

“This funding will allow us to expand our services and offer even better accommodation options to our guests.”

Margaret Keenan, relationship manager at the Royal Bank of Scotland, added: “We are delighted to support Albert Hotel Limited in their expansion. The whole team has shown incredible dedication to improving their services and accommodating the needs of their guests.”
