Abbey House Hotel awarded four-star silver standard

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

The Abbey House Hotel has been awarded a four-star silver standard by the AA.

The hotel and gardens has been a four-star venue since 2014, after £4m was invested in a major revamp, however it has now achieved four-star silver standard which the hotel said leaves it “within touching distance of coveted five-star status”. The hotel has also retained its AA Rosette for the food it serves in Oscar’s bar and restaurant.

The Abbey House Hotel and Gardens sits in 14 acres of gardens and features 60 rooms including a number of suites. It is also a popular wedding venue.

The AA recognises around 4,000 hotels across Britain and Ireland and uses a special ‘merit score’ to provide consumers with a means of comparing hotels within the same star rating. This score is out of 100 and hotels gaining scores of 85 and over are awarded five-star status. The Abbey House was awarded a score of 83.

General manager, John Horton, said: “A huge amount of work goes into running the Abbey House Hotel and Gardens and Oscar’s, and ensuring each and every one of our guests has a fantastic experience.

“It is very pleasing that the dedication of the team has been rewarded in this way. It is notoriously difficult to climb the rankings in the AA star guide, so to have done so and to have achieved silver star status, while retaining our rosette, really is something the Abbey House and Oscar’s are very proud of.”

AA inspector Mike Atkinson, added: “The Abbey House Hotel and Gardens has a great deal to commend, not least its superb grounds and architectural heritage. Substantial investment and stylish design coupled with high levels of quality make this a ‘stand-out’ destination.

“This was an enjoyable guest experience, one that found a well-managed team, who were keen to please. Physically the hotel is in very good shape, with high quality and style, along with generally spacious bedrooms.”
