The Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge Hotel has reopened following an expected multi-million pound refurbishment after it was flood-hit earlier this year.
The hotel in Surrey had been closed down for 9 months after being hit by the floods on Christmas Eve.
Reopened on September 1, the Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge is the second hotel the brand has unveiled in the UK that showcases its new lobby concept, which was first launched at Mercure London Bridge last year.
The 57-bedroom hotel has undergone an extensive nine-month redesign with a “locally inspired interior” that will pay homage to the literary roots of the area and historical background of the hotel.
Locally inspired interiors will include bespoke chairs with prints from John Keats poetry, a former guest; a large quote on the restaurant wall will remind guests of the Box Hill picnic scene in the novel Emma, by Jane Austen; and a bronze statue of the Olympic cyclists will appear in the lobby.
Jonathan Sheard, senior vice-president of operations, luxury, upscale and midscale hotels at Accor UK Ireland, said: “This part of the country is peppered with historic coaching inns and from the outside that is what you might expect at Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge.
“But step inside and guests are going to discover a whole experience from the beautiful heated Lido and landscaped gardens, to the subtle literary touches in our new lobby area all with Mercure welcome.”
The hotel is operated by French hotel group Accor under its mid-market, non-standardised brand, Mercure.
