New government must ‘fulfill election promises’ to businesses, says UKH

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

UKHospitality CEO Kate Nicholls has published a statement regarding her view of the election results, and how exactly the new government must act to aid the hospitality sector.

Her primary focus was that the Conservatives must now abide by their pledge to cut business rates and help boost employment and skills growth across the sector.

She also hopes that a possible end to Brexit uncertainty will bring some relief to business owners in the sector.

In her statement, Nicholls said: “A majority means that we begin to draw a line under the uncertainty we have felt over the last few years.

“The priority for this Government will be to secure the best Brexit possible, and the sooner it does that the sooner it needs to fulfil its election promises to business.”

She added: “We want to see the promised reduction in business rates delivered at the earliest opportunity.

“The new Government must also support business in delivering employment and an increase in skills and opportunities across the board.”

UKHospitality represents over 700 operators, who themselves represent some 65,000 venues across the hospitality sector.

Hospitality itself is a “major contributor” to the UK economy, employing 2.9 million people and generating £130bn of economic activity, as well as paying some £38bn in UK tax.

The sector is the third largest private sector employer in the UK, according to UKHospitality.
