Hotel to develop £1m property to house staff

Langdale Chase Hotel, located in the Lake District, Cumbria, has announced the development of a £1m staff accommodation block in response to the ‘difficult challenges’ of housing employees.

The accommodation block, which will house up to thirty members of staff, will feature “state-of-the-art bedrooms” and self-contained apartments.

The property will boast lake views, personal space, private en-suite facilities, a common area for socialising and according to the hotel will be a better standard than “some hotels nationally”.

The hotel said that the development comes as a response to the “difficult challenges” within the hotel industry of attracting high calibre staff, particularly in the Lake District where “affluence means there is little demand for catering jobs in contrast with high demand for workers”.

Thomas Noblett, managing director at the hotel, said: “There is a lack of affordable housing, with the costs of living far outstretching wages within the industry, making it difficult for people to move to the area who wish to seek employment within hospitality.

“Additional to this, many hotels are remotely located and local transport links do not operate to the hours demanded by the work, making it impossible for people without transport to commute from the towns.

“Particularly being situated in rural Lakeland, Langdale Chase feel it is of vital importance that we have housing on site for the majority of our staff. We are proud to have many long serving staff members and feel that it is important that they have somewhere safe and comfortable to call home.

“If they are happy in their working environment they will pass on this positive attitude in their efforts to achieve guest satisfaction.”
