Edinburgh the most expensive August destination in UK and Ireland

Edinburgh is the most expensive expensive summer destination in the UK and Ireland during August, according to a survey conducted by online travel agent cheaprooms.co.uk. 

The survey compared hotel rates for the ‘most affordable’ double rooms across 40 popular destination in August. Only centrally located hotels and guest houses rated at least three stars and with positive average guest reviews were considered.

The results found that the Scottish capital of Edinburgh was the most expensive destination, with visitors having to pay an average of £134 per night for the most affordable double room. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, taking place between August 7 and 31, is a possible reason behind the high room rates.

Bath was the second most expensive destination, with an average price of £106 per night, followed by St Peter Port, capital of Guernsey, at £104. A little cheaper was Oxford (£98), ranked fourth, and London (£97) as the fifth most costly.

Dublin was the most expensive destination in Ireland with an average price of £94 per night, the 10th most expensive destination out of the UK and Ireland.
