French hotel group AccorHotels has announced the completion of a franchise agreement for the new Mercure Doncaster Danum Hotel.
In a move to increase its footprint in the Midlands and the North of England, the 62-bedroom hotel will be AccorHotel’s first property in Doncaster.
The property, which will be operated under a franchise agreement with Cairn Hotel Group, is currently undergoing an extensive refurbishment to incorporate Mercure’s ‘open lobby’ concept and a new restaurant – named Anthony’s Bar & Restaurant – which will accommodate up to 70 diners.
The bedrooms are also being redesigned and will feature Hypnos beds and 32-inch TVs, while the property’s ballroom is being refurbished with a capacity to hold 250 guests.
Jonathan Sheard, senior vice-president of operations luxury, upscale & midscale hotels, at AccorHotels UK & Ireland, said: “We are pleased to announce our first hotel in Doncaster. The Mercure Doncaster, in line with the brand, will be a locally inspired hotel and we look forward to the opening in the autumn.”
Thomas Dubaere, managing director at AccorHotels UK & Ireland, said the opening is an “important step” in the progress towards the group’s target to open 300 hotels in the UK and Ireland over the coming years.
The announcement of the hotel, which is expected to open in early October, comes a week after AccorHotels reported a 4.1% growth in like-for-like revenue in its first half of 2015 results.
