Harbour Hotels has acquired the Ship Hotel from the Chichester Hotel Company in a deal that exceeded the £6m guide price.
The Grade II listed property, located within Chichester’s Roman walls, features 37 bedrooms, a newly refurbished restaurant and has been offered planning consent for a large extension which includes 25 additional bedrooms.
Mike Warren, managing director of Harbour Hotels, comments: “We are very excited to be taking the Harbour Hotels brand to Chichester; it’s an exciting location and a key strategic position from our perspective.
“The Ship is a prestigious, landmark property with some outstanding features. There is an excellent team of staff at the property and we are delighted to have such an addition to the Harbour Hotels portfolio.”
Gary Witham, hotels director at Savills, which represented the seller, added that the planning consent for additional rooms offers the opportunity to “increase profitability”, meaning it appealed to numerous high-end operators.
The acquisition comes after the group, which focuses on coastal locations around the UK, recently acquired three new properties in Bristol, Brighton and Salcombe.
