Hospitality workers ‘prefer money over workplace perks’

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

Hospitality workers would prefer to bank more money over receiving “pointless” workplace perks, new research has claimed.

The study from job site CV-Library, which surveyed more than 2,400 UK professionals in the industry, found that 36% of hospitality employees receive perks at work – higher than the national average of 24.3%.

Some 98% of industry workers said that they believed businesses should offer workplace perks, while almost two thirds (64%) of hospitality professionals said they would feel happier if their employer offered more perks.

Despite being happy with workplace perks, when asked to choose between perks at work and a pay rise, 92.7% of hospitality workers opted for the money.

Meanwhile, only a fifth of sector professionals believe workplace perks are important when considering new career opportunities.

Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library comments: “When run effectively, workplace perks can go great lengths to creating a happy and productive workforce.

“However, it’s important that perks aren’t used as a replacement for fair salaries and bonus schemes, especially if you’re bringing staff on-board in January, when many employees experience a funding-drought after the Christmas period.”

Free food ranked top on the list of favourite perks among workers in the industry (24.5%), followed by more holiday (16.1%) and early finishes (15.8%).
