Nextcolour Developments, a local developer in South West Wales, has commenced work on a new boutique hotel at Oyster Warf, Mumbles.
The 16-bedroom establishment has received £2m investment from the Development Bank of Wales via funding through the Wales Tourism Investment Fund and the backing of Visit Wales.
The property is expected to open in 2021, responding to the “strong market demand” for boutique hotels.
James Morse, director at Nextcolour, said: “Now might not be an obvious time to invest in a new hotel but we are confident that there is strong market demand for a high quality boutique hotel in the area given the strength of the tourist industry in South West Wales.”
Some 30 new jobs are expected to be created through the development, which has been pre-let for 25 years to the City Pub Group, a hospitality group with 47 establishments across the UK.
Alun Thomas, regional manager at the Development Bank of Wales, said: “The new boutique hotel will only enhance the quality experience already available and will create 30 much needed new jobs.”
The project has also received backing from Lord Elis-Thomas, the Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport, and Tourism, who ensured that “better times await the sector” despite the “difficult times” it is currently enduring.
