Room to Reward donates £15,000 worth of hotel stays in first year

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

Room to Reward, which provides hotel breaks to ‘deserving individuals’ in registered charities, has donated over 100 room nights since its inception a year ago.

With over 50 hotels and 20 charities signed up to the scheme, the charity has provided some 35 breaks to 35 ‘hidden heroes’. It is believed to have donated around £15,000 worth of hotel stays in the 12 months since it launched in July last year.

The scheme hopes to reward those who offer their time for charities – both on a volunteer and low salary bracket basis – who could not ordinarily afford to stay at a hotel.

It works with hotels to donate vacant bedrooms to “deserving individuals”, with a complimentary stay on a bed-and-breakfast basis.

The charity has also signed a number of high-profile hotel brands, including Elite Hotels, Brook Hotels, New Forest Hotels, Harbour Hotels, Greenclose Hotels, Dalhousie Castle in Scotland, two Indigo Hotels and St Ermin’s Hotel in Westminster

Nicolas Roach, chairman of Nicolas James Group, said he is “extremely proud” of the charity’s “initial success”.

He said: “This represents a unique opportunity for the hotel industry to reward those who do so much for others. As an owner of hotels, we are all too aware that you can’t sell today’s empty room tomorrow so why not put that to good use? I hope we can further the incredible success so far across the industry.”
