4th Annual World Food Awards announced

The World Foods Association today announced that the fourth annual World Food Awards are now accepting entries for the 2012 ceremony.

On 2 November the World Foods Award, a highly-regarded event on the ethnic foods calendar, will be held at the Lancaster London Hotel.

Ten awards will be given out in ten categories at the event. The categories are as follows: Best new product of the year; food or drink product of the year; best packaging of the year; wholesaler of the year/catering supplier of the year; marketing campaign of the year; national retailer of the year; exporter of the year; restaurant of the year; entrepreneur of the year and the lifetime achievement award.

The awards are open exclusively to companies who specialise, promote or stock products from ethnic communities such as Asian, Oriental, Afro-Caribbean, European, Eastern European, Middle-Eastern, South American and Mediterranean. The deadline for entries is 31 July.

Harry Dulai, a founding supporter of the World Food Association, said: “This event has proved an amazing success with our industry, quickly attracting the who’s who of the world food sector –a clear sign to me that an event to honour the achievements of this thriving sector was long overdue.

“By refining our existing categories and introducing new categories we hope that the World Food Awards will this year, receive even more entries.”

Last year’s awards were hosted by comedian Lenny Henry and featured an array of celebrities from the world of cooking and beyond that included Ken Hom, Simon Webbe and Denise Lewis, among others. Winners at the event included Tesco, Hakkasan and Rubicon.

Yeshpal Sharma, vice president of Star UK & Europe, the event’s official media partner, said: “We are delighted to be hosting these fantastic awards again this year. There are hundreds, if not thousands of companies that deserve to be recognised for the impact they have made on the cultural landscape of Britain and it is a pleasure to see so many of them coming forward to participate in the World Food Awards.”

This year’s judging panel includes Adam Leyland, editor of The Grocer, Simon Numphud, head of AA inspectors, and David Jago, director of innovation and insight at Mintel.
