Military Wives entertain hotel audiences with carols

The Military Wives, who topped the Christmas charts in 2011 with their single ‘Wherever You Are’, entertained 250 guests with tracks from their new album and a selection of Christmas carols.

Held at the Grosvenor House, a JW Marriot, on 12 December, the wives of soldiers fighting overseas performed in front of VIP guests in the iconic hotel’s transformed forecourt after it underwent a 24-hour transformation which saw a truss construction, outdoor heating, festive dressing and food and drink stations.

Guests were treated to a traditional Hog and Three Bird Roasts, seasonal canapés, Gluhwine and JW Steakhouse’s signature cheesecake in miniature along with Bourbon Hot Chocolate from the Bourbon Bar in between the festivities.

The Military Wives Choir was formed last year under TV choirmaster Gareth Malone in the fourth series of BBC2’s The Choir.

Pipping X Factor’s Little Mix to the 2011 Christmas number one slot was seen as a great coup for the choir who’ve continued with their success ever since.

Malone taught them to sing while their husbands and partners toured Afghanistan. Following the show, Gareth and the Military Wives went on to record ‘Wherever You Are’, written by Royal Wedding composer Paul Mealor. It was released on 19th December 2011 and reached the coveted Christmas Number One spot.
