KLJ Group of Hotels acquires third Swansea guest house

In this episode we speak to Anthony Hunt, partner and co-head of Corporate Real Estate at law firm Howard Kennedy. We discuss why 2026 may be seen as a pivotal year for boutique hotels, unpack the rise of global nomadism and how this is shaping demand and trends across hospitality, and how a strong team and clear, consistent messaging and offerings are key to securing investment.

Swansea-based KLJ Group of Hotels has acquired its third guest house after receiving funding from Natwest.

The purchase of the 31-bedroom guest house follows the acquisition of two other three-star guesthouses located on the same street in the summer of 2015.

The hotel group was set up less than two years ago by husband and wife Kumar and Leena Balain, and now operates a total of 80 rooms. They aim to provide reasonably priced, high quality bed and breakfast facilities and hope their properties regenerate the Mumbles Road area.

Kumar said: “With this new acquisition, we bring with us many years of experience and an understanding of how to sympathetically improve the working standard of our hotels, in order to cement them as focal points for the community and add value to their location.

“Swansea is very close to our hearts and we look forward to sharing its culture, history and scenic beauty with our guests.”

Gemma Yorke, NatWest relationship manager, said: “Kumar and Leena have pursued a growth strategy which has really paid off for them. It is wonderful to see a small business succeeding and we hope to continue our support of the business as it continues to grow.”
