A Cambridge city hotel hosted a memorable leaving party for one of its longest serving employees.
Friends and colleagues said a fond farewell to Margaret Warner, housekeeper’s assistant at the Cambridge City Hotel after an impressive 22 years of service. She started her job at the hotel when it originally opened as the Holiday Inn in 1991. Since then, she has seen it change to Cambridge Crowne Plaza and finally the Cambridge City Hotel.
The team at the hotel presented Margaret with a certificate commemorating her long service, two tickets to the theatre and a voucher to stay in Cambridge City Hotel’s sister hotel, the Strand Palace Hotel in London.
She has been responsible for initiating some innovative upcyclying initiatives during her time at the hotel. Using her impressive sewing skills, she turned old sheets into pillowcases and table linen into napkins, demonstrating the hotel’s forward thinking in adopting sustainable business practices. She said she was looking forward to carrying on her craft making along with gardening and seeing her friends after retiring.
General manager at Cambridge City Hotel Ernesto Santarelli said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to work with such a valuable member of staff and the hotel will be forever indebted to Margaret for her long service to the hotel while constantly having a smile on her face.”
