Accorhotels has launched an online platform as part of its program Plant For The Planet, and aims to fund agroforestry projects in countries around the world.
The site aims to raise awareness and involve hotel guests and the general public in promoting sustainable land use systems to preserve and regenerate ecosystems.
The project has been jointly developed with the group’s long term partner Pur Projet.
Five planting projects have been set up in France, Romania, Senegal, Indonesia and Peru. Users will be able to plant one or more trees or plant them on someone else’s behalf.
Prices for the trees will depend on species and country, ranging from €3 (£2.86) to €10 (£8.81). Once purchased users will receive information on who planted the tree and its location, as well as follow the progress of the project through photos, videos and view long term objectives.
Accorhotels has been supporting local communities and small-scale farms since through Plant For The Planet since 2009.
