Hilton Hotels has unveiled ‘Connected Room’, a first-of-its-kind guest room that allows visitors to control and personalize their rooms through a smartphone app.
The project is in beta testing and currently available in only one hotel, but will be implemented across Hilton’s portfolio in the United States throughout 2018.
Hilton stated that it will be an extension of Hiltons Honors app, which already allows guests to choose rooms, check in and open doors with a digital key.
Customers staying in Connected Room equipped properties can adjust room temperature, lighting and window coverings entirely with their smartphone. Other features include the option of loading popular streaming media and other accounts into in-room TVs.
Longer-term plans include support of a wide range of devices and and using voice commands to control the room and access content.
The hotel brand says it “knows its guests value this type of access from their smartphones based on the wide usage already seen from Hilton Honors members.”
Christopher Nassetta, president and CEO of Hilton, said: “Innovation has been in Hilton’s DNA since entrepreneur Conrad Hilton purchased the first Hilton property and pioneered the hospitality industry nearly 100 years ago.”
He added: “Many innovations later, we are once again setting a new standard for the industry by giving our guests a travel experience where the room knows them, and they know their room.”
