Hotel guests were evacuated from St Michael’s Hotel in Falmouth, Cornwall, earlier today due to a small fire which started in the property’s spa and health complex.
Two fire appliances from Falmouth Fire Station and one from Truro Community Fire Station, as well as a Flexi Duty Officer attended this incident, according to the Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service.
In a statement, the service said: “On arrival there was smoke issuing from the basement area of a hotel leisure complex. Firefighters used two breathing apparatus, one hosereel, one safety jet, one CO2 extinguisher and thermal image camera to tackle the fire.
“The fire was located in the sauna area of the health complex and all the occupants of the hotel had been evacuated safely. A fire investigation was carried out and the cause was confirmed as accidental.”

The hotel’s spa boasts a state of the art gym, three fitness studios, a 17m pool with separate sauna, steam room and jet fountains.
The hotel tweeted this afternoon to confirm that no damage was caused and the facility has now re-opened.
People may have heard the health club was closed this morning due to a minor incident, there was no damage done to the health club and it is now open as usual.
