Hilton and Zagreb City Hotels have announced plans to open a hotel under its Canopy brand in the Croatian capital.

Launched in 2014 Hilton’s Canopy brand aims to be a “natural extension of its neighbourhood for guests in search of thoughtfully local experiences”.

Located in downtown Zagreb, close to the city’s main rail station, the hotel is expected to welcome its first guests in late 2018.The hotel will also be the first Canopy hotel in continental Europe.

The hotel’s design will draw on the heritage of the neighbourhood, with industrial materials and fittings used throughout the property’s interiors.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, EMEA, Hilton said: “Croatia is a major draw for leisure tourists, with pristine beaches, national parks, historic cities and a vibrant cultural scene encouraging more visitors than ever to visit.

“2017 has been a record year for tourism, with more than 20 million international arrivals – and this impressive economic momentum is set to continue. We’re thrilled to be adding to our Croatian portfolio and to be working with Zagreb City Hotels once again – launching Canopy by Hilton on the continent.”

Josipa Jutt, CEO of Zagreb City Hotels said the company is very proud to be able to bring a Canopy hotel to Zagreb.

“Zagreb is a thriving city and the perfect fit for Canopy by Hilton,” added Gary Steffen, global head for Canopy by Hilton.

“We’re excited to play a central role in the next phase of the neighborhood’s evolution, giving guests a unique opportunity to experience food and drink inspired by the local area, and offering a stylish base from which to explore the Croatian capital.”

Canopy by Hilton Zagreb will join two other Hilton properties in Croatia – DoubleTree by Hilton Zagreb and Hilton Imperial Dubrovik.
