QHotels, a collection of 21 four star unique hotels, has been awarded 15 gold and six silver awards by Green Tourism Business Scheme Awards, the National Sustainable Tourism Certification Programme.

The award highlights QHotels commitment to the environment and its focus on ensuring all venues have sustainable operations. QHotels director of property Philip King, said: “We are committed to having sustainable operations and we strive to reduce the environmental impact of our business activities. This accreditation is testament to the commitment everyone has put into making our venues environmentally friendly. To have fifteen hotels receive a gold accreditation and six get silver is simply brilliant and we are really proud.”

Green Tourism, the largest and most established sustainable grading program in the world, assesses its member’s standards against a strict criteria including environmental management and marketing, social involvement, waste and travel.

The accreditation follows two exciting brand announcements, including the brand trialling a new eco experience for businesses, giving its conference, training and event delegates the chance to provide electricity for their meetings through pedal power in an attempt to hit QHotels’ annual energy reduction target.

QHotels has also seen the addition of 14 colonies of honey bees to six of its hotels in an attempt to combat the falling numbers of bees and negative impact this has on UK wild life and green space enhancement.
