Esplanade Hotel recognised by AA following refurb

The hotel reopened on 17 May with a ‘fresh new look’ and facilities, including its own boutique cinema, flexible all-day dining offering and an adults-only cocktail bar

The Esplanade Hotel in Newquay, Cornwall, has received four AA stars after undergoing an “extensive” multi-million-pound refurbishment.

The hotel reopened on 17 May with a “fresh new look” and facilities, including its own boutique cinema, flexible all-day dining offering and an adults-only cocktail bar.

The AA assessed the hotel against its Common Quality Standards across six key areas: cleanliness, service, food, bedrooms, bathrooms and hospitality. To achieve the Four Star accolade, it reportedly demonstrated it “provides value, comfort and a great guest experience, ensuring attention to detail is a priority”. The family-run hotel will now join the fewer than 30 Cornish hotels with a four star rating.

Following the refurbishment, its fully renovated bedrooms, communal areas and exteriors are now said to reflect the hotel’s coastal location, incorporating nautical blues and neutral earth tones, while the number of bedrooms has been reduced from 90 to 85 to create bigger spaces for guests.

Located overlooking the surf beach, Fistral, the Esplanade Hotel is home to the Quiksilver Surf School, offering an “exhilarating array of al fresco adventure experiences from surfing and coasteering to bodyboarding and SUPing”.

The hotel also features an expansive leisure area fitted with a heated indoor pool, a hot tub, and sauna, as well as an indoor family soft play and arcade area, relocated nearer the restaurant area, and an outdoor pirate ship for children.

The newly renovated Cove Restaurant will remain open for all-day dining, taking on a new dining concept as the hotel introduces its flexible dining package.

Operations director Laura Cameron said: “It’s so incredibly rewarding to receive this achievement after such a challenging year for the hotel and our teams. The lockdown has allowed us to carry out planned improvements that would have ordinarily taken years, so it’s a poignant moment for us.

“We couldn’t have done it without the patience and dedication of our loyal and hardworking team. We’re delighted to be welcoming faces familiar and new guests once again to enjoy our unbeatable coastal location and the new and improved offering.”
