The Redcliffe Hotel in Devon has been sold for the first time in 40 years off a guide price of £4.5m
The hotel has been purchased by Mallino Developments Limited, the group behind the £50m conversion of the Bodmin Jail in Cornwall into a boutique four-star 70-bedroom hotel, which opened in February this year.
Originally constructed between 1855-65 as a grand home named Redcliffe Towers, today The Redcliffe Hotel houses 70-bedrooms which overlook the Devon coastline.
The property has been owned by the Twigger family since 1979, with the family making the decision to sell as the current owner, Stephen Twigger, is looking to retire.
Stephen Champion, director at Christie and Co, who headed the sale, said that the property “truly is a landmark building on the Torbay coast” and it is “rare” that such an “opportunity comes to the market in this region”.
