Richardson has “extensive” hospitality experience, having worked as head chef of Leeds United Football Club and eight years in the cruise industry.
The hotel revealed he will be leading the kitchen team and curating menus using fresh, seasonal ingredients from local Manchester-based suppliers.
This career move marks Richardson’s first time working in a hotel kitchen in over five years, having spent the majority of his career on cruise ships, including Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas, one of the largest cruise ships in the world.
After moving to Amsterdam and meeting his wife, Richardson settled in Peru for three years before returning to the UK in 2016. Since then, he has worked as head chef at Leeds United football club and at an event catering company in London.
Richardson said: “It’s a chef’s dream to be opening a new hotel with a new kitchen and a new team. What’s also exciting about this opening is that we’re bringing a brand-new concept to Manchester with the Maldron brand.
“Like many chefs, I began my career working as a kitchen porter, and then through college gained experience in different restaurants and hotels in the UK. I’ve had some amazing experiences travelling the planet and have been so inspired by different flavours and cooking techniques along the way. I’m really looking forward to guests seeing this reflected in the menu.”
He added: “We will be catering for guests from all walks of life, from people coming to soak up Manchester’s buzzing nightlife to those on business trips. The menu is designed to be enjoyed by all. Guests can expect modern, sharing plates, a good amount of plant-based dishes and food big on flavour.
“I’ve always loved the atmosphere and seeing people enjoy your food – I just couldn’t imagine doing another job. I’m absolutely delighted to be back in Manchester doing what I love.”
