The Isle of Mull Hotel and Spa has been tipped as Scotland’s Best Country Hotel 2022 by the Prestige Awards.
The hotel, part of Crerar Hotels Group, had invested £4m in the last 18 months before winning the category, which also had Cromlix House and Dumfries House Lodge amongst the shortlistees.
Scotland’s Prestige Awards has been running for eight years and was created to showcase and reward “outstanding service within the hotel industry”. The winners are voted by the public.
With 75 new-look bedrooms and bathrooms, a new sea-deck overlooking Craignure Bay, new luxury suites and extensive landscaping, the Isle of Mull Hotel and Spa is now described as “a beacon of hospitality on the unique and idyllic island location, popular with tourists”.
The hotel also features Oran na Mara Bistro, Gaelic for ‘Song of the Sea’, a restaurant that offers guests and locals “an exceptional dining experience” with a menu that features local and seasonal cuisine, as well as a brand-new sea deck for al fresco dining.
The site’s Driftwood Spa includes a 17m swimming pool, a thermal suite with sauna and steam room, a foot spa, experience showers and a Rasul mud chamber. The four treatment rooms include two couples’ rooms, one single and one seaweed bath.
John de Villiers, general manager, said: “We’re delighted to have won the title of Best Country Hotel at the Scotland’s Prestige Hotel Awards – which is all the more meaningful that it is determined via a public vote. The accolade is testament to the warm Scottish welcome that awaits our visitors and the outstanding refurbishment which has transformed the guest experience at our island hotel.
“From the outset, our goal was to create a small slice of understated luxury that reflects the stunning natural backdrop of the island whilst offering a warm and welcoming experience for all who come to stay. I think we have delivered on that goal and then some and this award cements this position.”
