Hotel operator OYO has revealed it has seen a 9% increase in hotel bookings for June to August 2022, boosted by a surge in Uk holidaymakers turning to UK staycations.
The report, utilising data from OYO’s proprietary booking platform, also revealed a “significantly heightened” summer demand compared with the pandemic-affected years of 2020 (+80%) and 2021 (+31%).
It found Newquay, Edinburgh, and Seaham in County Durham are among the most popular ‘staycation’ destinations, with a 11% increase in occupancy for 2022 versus 2021.
Puneet Yadav, vice president and business head at OYO UK, said: “It’s very encouraging to see such strong demand for this year’s summer months, as hotel owners continue to rebuild after the pandemic. Our research has confirmed that the hospitality sector is recovering well, with increased booking figures driving revenue for our broad portfolio of hotel owners.
“We’ve invested heavily in our technology stack over the past two years to ensure our hotel owners are fully supported in providing each and every guest with the best possible holiday experience.”
