The “award-winning” Mousetrap Inn, which is located in the village of Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds, has been sold to Stephen Davies as a freehold for an undisclosed amount.
It is reported that the village in which the property is situated is famed for its Elizabethan architecture and its five-stone bridges across the River Windrush.
The Mousetrap is said to be a few minutes’ walk from shops and restaurants, and only half an hour’s drive from the city of Cheltenham. The property is reportedly a “favourite” among the local community as well as holidaymakers.
The mid-19th-Century Victorian property is said to have been carefully restored, preserving period features such as the exposed beam ceilings, stonework walls and open Cotswold stone fireplace.
The inn offers 11 en-suite rooms, traditional food in a spacious restaurant and outdoor dining terrace. The focus on quality and comfort has previously gained it a three-diamond rating from the English Tourist Board, in addition to excellent visitor reviews.
Nicholas Calfe, director of hospitality south at Christie and Co, said: “The Mousetrap Inn represented an excellent turnkey opportunity, having received ongoing investment by the previous owner, Mike Gascoyne, who has done a fantastic job at creating a go-to venue in the heart of the Cotswolds.
“Having sold the venue to Mike back in 2007, it was a delight to bring it to the market on his behalf all these years later and achieve a successful sale.”
Davies said: “My partner and I are thrilled to have acquired The Mousetrap Inn and will strive to maintain and enhance its high standards of food, service and accommodation. Having spent two decades working on the development side of the hospitality industry, we have always aspired to owning and operating something so special.
“It has taken a long time to find the right business, but the character and history of the Mousetrap had us charmed from the outset. Despite the ongoing financial and resourcing pressures, which are felt very sharply by the hospitality sector, we are fully committed to the long-term success of the inn.”
Michelle Beesley, assistant manager of the Mousetrap Inn, added: “As a team, our main priority is working together with the Bourton-on-the-Water community, using locally sourced food and products, and making this the favourite haunt of local people as well as tourists.”
