A man has been arrested by Welsh police on suspicion of arson over a fire that broke out at Ty Belgrave House hotel in Aberystwyth, Wales.
Detective chief inspector Neil Jenkins of Dyfed Powys police said the force continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding “the unexplained fire”, which broke out at the property during the early hours of the morning on 25 July.
One man remains unaccounted for following the fire and work is underway to trace his next of kin, with officers liaising with the Lithuanian Embassy in an attempt to contact them.
During the incident attending crews were met with a “well developed fire” and rescued nine adults and three children from the affected property. The fire spread to adjoining properties and residents were evacuated to alternative accommodation.
Jenkins added: “The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and work is being carried out to make the building safe while preserving evidence at the scene. It is anticipated that access will not be possible until the end of this week at the earliest. Police and fire officers will then carry out a joint investigation to establish the cause of the fire.”
