College student Jessica Newbold has been announced as the winner of the Olive it! catering competition for young chefs.\u00a0\r\n\r\nNewbold, 19, from Boston College in Lincolnshire, captured the judges to take the Olive it! crown, \u201cshowing true passion for cooking and exceptional culinary skill.\u201d\r\n\r\nThe judges were particularly impressed with Jessica\u2019s green olive souffl\u00e9 which was \u201ccooked to perfection\u201d, as well as her \u201ccalm demeanour\u201d in the kitchen and her \u201cexcellent flavour understanding and appreciation.\u201d\r\n\r\nPartnering with Spanish chef of Tapas Revolution fame, Omar Allibhoy, the completion sought to unearth culinary talent by challenging aspiring chefs aged up to the age of 25 to create a four-course menu, with each dish incorporating green or black olives as principal ingredients.\r\n\r\nDuring the live cook off on June 3, eight finalists had just four hours to recreate their olive\u2013inspired menus and present their final dishes to five judges, who were appointed from within the industry.\r\n\r\nAs the Olive it! winner, Newbold received an all-inclusive gastronomic weekend for two in Spain worth \u00a34,000 and \u00a3400 worth of chef\u2019s professional equipment of her choice.\r\n\r\nJessica has also been given the experience of a one-week placement at Omar Allibhoy\u2019s award winning restaurant, Tapas Revolution.\r\n\r\nNewbold said: \u201cI\u2019m amazed to have won \u2013 shocked really. It was a challenge to use olives in every course and I\u2019ve learned a lot by entering the competition.\r\n\r\n\u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to working in Omar\u2019s tapas bar and gaining real life kitchen experience. I\u2019ll definitely be using more olives in my cooking.\u201d\r\n\r\nGeorgia Claxton, 19, also from Boston College came second, and bringing home the bronze award was Aston Knight, 20, from Accrington and Rossendale College in the North West.
