In this episode we speak to Nico Tréguer, co-founder of Roberts and Treguer and The Culpeper Family. Nico spoke about founding the group alongside his longtime friend Gareth, having had a vision for bringing more nature spaces to cities, the planned extension of The Buxton in Spitalfields, and how the site’s storytelling engages guests and the local community, how the Culpeper Family’s core sustainability ethos helped it secure its B-Corp status and why hospitality has a responsibility to educate and innovate when it comes to sustainability.

Residence Inn by Marriott is set to open its latest UK aparthotel in Manchester City Centre this May, making it the first of its sites in Northern England.

The opening marks the brand’s fifth Residence Inn property in the UK, with the other four located in London and Scotland

Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly offers a prime central location for those travelling into the city for work or leisure. It is situated on Laystall Street, less than a 10 minute walk from the city’s main transport hub, Manchester Piccadilly. It is also next to the “bustling” areas of Ancoats and the Northern Quarter.

The 155-room hotel will consist of “sleek and spacious” studios and one-bedroom suites that will be set over 12 floors. The hotel is also pet friendly.

Some 25 of the studios and suites offer baths and over half offer sofa beds in the living space. Every room comes with a fully functional kitchen, featuring microwaves, single ovens, two-ring hobs, refrigerators and dishwashers, as well as “all the cookware you could possibly need to create a home cooked meal”. All rooms also come with Smart-TVs, while self-service communal laundry facilities are available on site and open at all times.

The longer-stay hotel also features lounge areas and a coffee shop with a grab and go counter. Complimentary breakfasts are provided, or guests can use the hotel’s bespoke grocery delivery service.

Meeting spaces can be transformed to suit “diverse needs”, while an outdoor seating area will cater for those that “like to dine, drink, or work al fresco”. The site will also feature a Fitness Centre that is open 24/7, and features high-spec cardio, resistance and free weight areas.

The area in which Residence Inn is situated has undergone “significant” development over the last few years and is now home to many large corporate offices, as well as popular dining, drinking and cultural establishments, and galleries, boutiques and concert venues.

Also within close range are Manchester Victoria Station, Manchester’s Metrolink tram network, and various bus interchanges, plus other services such as the ‘Bee Bikes’ cycle hire scheme, and free city centre shuttle buses.

Additionally, the hotel will be home to two retail spaces on the ground floor, which will be independently accessible from the hotel. The retail units are available to let and will look to service the needs and wants of those in the area.

Residence Inn Manchester Piccadilly GM Mustapha Henini said: “We are incredibly excited for the opening of Residence Inn in Manchester Piccadilly. This city is inviting, and our new hotel offers the perfect space for those looking for a spacious stay.”

PHH UK advisor, Morris Katri, added: “The Ancoats and Piccadilly areas have seen significant redevelopment and investment over recent years, with Residence Inn set to add to the offering available further. This hotel will enhance the community with its unique long stay offering and beautiful interiors, plus bring more jobs to the area, boosting the centre’s economic growth.”
