Glasgow’s Grand Central hotel has appointed Marcello Ventisei as its new general manager.

The hotel, which is now operated by IHG hotels as Voco Grand Central Glasgow, has been a part of Glasgow Central station since 27 June 1883.

The firm said Ventisei “brings a wealth of experience” to the role with a hospitality and tourism career that spans over almost three decades.

He has held leadership roles in prestigious hotels and resorts across the UK since beginning his career at the prestigious Grand Hotel in Brighton.

Ventisei said: “I couldn’t be prouder to take the reins of this magnificent hotel in my home city. I’ve grown up in Glasgow and have so many fond memories of the hotel over the years. It’s truly a special property that is very much loved by the people of Scotland.

“I have long admired the building and its fantastic reputation, which has been a symbol of exceptional hospitality for 140 years. With its rich history and prime location in Glasgow’s Central Station, there is so much to love. What’s more, the Grand Ballroom, which has hosted so many incredible events over the years, is one of the most architecturally stunning event spaces in the UK.”

He added: “I am excited to be able to carry forward the hotel’s tradition of providing unforgettable experiences to our guests. It’s an honour and a privilege to work alongside such a talented team to take this Glaswegian gem to new heights.”

The hotel has recently undergone a multi-million rebrand and refurbishment, preserving its rich heritage and original architectural design while infusing a contemporary touch.
