The Budock Vean Hotel and Estate in Cornwall has been brought to market for offers in excess of £7m.

Located in Mawnan Smith, near Falmouth and 33 miles from Newquay Airport, the 50-bedroom hotel includes three holiday homes and four lodges and cottages, as well as a cocktail bar, conservatory and restaurant with a Visit England Award. 

The estate sits within 46 acres of woodland, with a James Braid designed golf course, indoor heated swimming pool, two tennis courts, and natural health spa including treatment rooms, sauna, and outdoor hot tub. 

The historic property, which has been occupied since 1538, lies at the head of the Helford River in West Cornwall, an area “renowned” for its scenery and wildlife. When Virginia Woolf stayed at the hotel in 1936, she complimented the area’s scenery in a letter to her nephew. 

Martin Barlow, Budock Vean Hotel and Estate owner, said: “After 23 memorable years, I have decided that it is time for me to bring to a close my family’s 37-year ownership. This is not a decision that I have come to lightly, but I do believe the time is right for me personally to make this change.

“The business is in great shape, with an excellent team who can continue to deliver the very high standards of food and service that has been a hallmark of the hotel.”

Matthew Smith, partner in Knight Frank’s Hotel Agency team, added: “Budock Vean Hotel and Estate has an excellent reputation and loyal client base who return year on year to enjoy its prime coastal location and fantastic amenities.

“We are delighted to be bringing this to market. Having proved so successful over the years, it presents a tremendous investment opportunity to take on a jewel in West Cornwall, building on its already impressive heritage.”
