Penta Hotels has announced that as of February 1, 2024, current managing director Rogier Braakman will be stepping down from his position and will be replaced internally by the current chief of operations and commerce, Andrew Munt.
Braakman, who has successfully led Penta for the last four years, will remain with the company on an advisory basis for the foreseeable future, to provide continuity and offer the board support at a strategic level.
Despite having to navigate a challenging period through the pandemic, the firm said Braakman has “worked tirelessly” to shape Penta into an even more competitive company. Braakman has helped steer the business past a cyber incident without any lasting damages, has introduced a new leadership structure that is more agile and growth-oriented, and has overseen a taskforce which carried out a key brand refresh. Braakman’s decision to step down as managing director is based on his wish to “devote more time to his family in the Netherlands, moving forward”.
Munt will be taking over the role of MD, to promote Penta’s story and highlight the company’s commitment to internal development. Munt joined Penta as general manager at Pentahotel Reading back in 2010. His knowledge and expertise of the hospitality industry has seen him rise through key management positions over the last 13 years, culminating in his current role as chief of operations and commerce.
Braakman said: “The decision was not easy, but my family comes first. I want to play an active role in shaping my children’s lives – and I simply want more time for that. The fact that I will remain with Penta as an advisor shows how important Penta is to me, and how much I believe in the success of the team.”
Munt added: “I know that I have big shoes to fill, it has been an honour to work alongside Rogier. That being said, I am excited for the challenge ahead. To have the chance to lead a company that has been such a huge and impactful part of my career, with a culture and team that I consider to be truly unique, is more than a privilege. The future of Penta is bright and I look forward to tackling the opportunities that lie ahead together, with this truly dedicated team.”
