Chichester Hotel in Essex secures new tenants

In this episode we speak to brothers Alex and Adrien Grosjean, young entrepreneurs who have recently acquired The Residence Inn by Marriott Manchester Piccadilly. We discussed the reasons why Manchester’s visitor market is booming, and their decision to invest in this area, why they see extended-stay accommodation as a major opportunity in what is one of the UK's fastest-growing cities, how they plan to enhance their portfolio of hotels, and their advice for the next generation of hospitality disruptors.

The Chichester Hotel in the Essex village of Rawreth, near Wickford, has secured new tenants.

Dating back to the 13th Century, the Chichester Hotel takes its name from Sir John de Chichestre, who was the original occupant of Chichester Hall.

The property features 36 ensuite bedrooms, a bar, restaurant and extensive wedding and event spaces.

The sale was brokered by Simon Jackaman, director – hotels East Anglia at Christie and Co, who said: “The hotel had been closed for a while as the previous lessees had vacated but given its history and location, I knew that the opportunity would draw interest from buyers far and wide.”

Following a comprehensive marketing process, over 30 potentially interested parties viewed the property during two open viewing days. This resulted in 20 indicative offers from a wide range of buyers, many in excess of the guide price of £1.6m.

A best and final offer process was undertaken with a sale being achieved significantly over the guide price through a competitive bidding process to an existing hotel group.

Jackaman concluded: “I’m delighted to have been involved in achieving a great outcome for our clients and selling the hotel into good hands. The new tenants have significant plans to quickly re-establish the hotel and merge it within their existing portfolio. This deal illustrates that for the right assets, there remains a strong market for hotels across Essex and the East Anglia area.”
