The Varsity hotel in Cambridge has undergone a £1m refurbishment, which has seen all of its 50 bedrooms, including the penthouse suite, completely revamped. The site is an independently owned 50-room boutique hotel and spa in the hub of the Cambridge’s Quayside area.
The independently owned hotel’s team worked with a range of notable interior brands based in Chelsea Harbour on the refurb, including fabrics and wallpapers from designers Kit Kemp, Colefax and Fowler and GP and J Baker. The venue also used a range of local, independent and bespoke furniture makers.
Each individual room will feature strong patterned wallpapers in “vibrant” hues, solid oak flooring complemented by stylish rugs, Hypnos beds, marble bathrooms with monsoon showers and some with freestanding Victorian baths.
Each room also features the latest technology, including smart TVs, iPads, tablet computers, ultra-fast broadband and some with iMacs.
Aside from the rooms, The Varsity Hotel and Spa has recently undergone a refurbishment of its two on-site restaurants, SIX Panoramic Bar and Brasserie and The River Bar Steakhouse and Grill, as well as the communal reception area and the Glassworks Spa changing room facilities.
The hotel’s next project, which starts shortly, is going to include a new Subterranean 20-metre pool, hammam, sauna, a large Jacuzzi for 30 people and an additional 12 spa treatment rooms.
