The chief executive officer of The Standard Hotels Amber Asher has announced that she is stepping down from the role, following the sale of the hotel group to Hyatt last year.
Asher initially joined the group in 2011 as general counsel and executive vice president before being promoted to president in 2017 and lastly to CEO in 2021.
In an announcement on LinkedIn, Asher said: “It’s been the greatest honor of my life to lead this incredible team and these remarkable brands for the past 7 years as CEO and president prior. I am extremely proud of what we accomplished together with no shortage of obstacles.
“We went from four Standard Hotels in the US to 25 hotels across multiple brands around the world. And many more to come! Since 2018, we grew our revenue by 400% and finally achieved profitability. When I started as General Counsel at André Balazs Properties in 2011, I had no idea what was in store for me but I’m so glad I stayed along for the ride. What a ride it was!”
Asher’s move comes following the sale of Standard International, the parent company of The Standard and Bunkhouse Hotels brands, to Hyatt for £272m.
The Hyatt acquisition includes The Standard London, The Standard, High Line in New York City, The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon and The Manner in SoHo. Upcoming properties include The Standard in Singapore, Bunkhouse’s Hotel Saint Augustine in Houston, and The StandardX in Bangkok.
At the time of the acquisition, Mark Hoplamazian, president and chief executive officer, Hyatt, said: “The development community knows an industry game-changer when they see it, and the enthusiasm for bringing together the ethos of The Standard and Bunkhouse brands and the power of Hyatt’s network and distribution system is palpable.”
