The Cumberland, a 90-year-old hotel, has appointed Pedro Da Silva as general manager.
Da Silva succeeds Julie Hammond who was general manager from November 2022. He joins The Cumberland from a prior role as GM of The Royal Horseguards and One Whitehall Place, a 5-star Grade II* listed hotel in London encompassed by two iconic buildings.
He said he has “strong ambitions” to elevate The Cumberland’s reputation as an iconic lifestyle hotel and multi-faceted business steeped in cultural and musical legacy.
Da Silva aims to breathe new life throughout the 900 bedrooms, as well as the plethora of popular food and beverage outlets including ‘Sound’, a blend of live music, sports and dining.
Simultaneously he will draw attention to the meeting and event spaces – including the 300-capacity ‘The Arena’, and 18 other meeting rooms. Da Silva added he is committed to providing all guests—tourists and locals alike, both returning and new—with fresh reasons to visit the hotel.
Prior to his roles within the Clermont Hotel Group – including The Royal Horseguards and Clermont Charing Cross London – he held general manager roles across a range of popular London hotels within RBH Hospitality Management.
From 2003 – 2006, Da Silva honed his international experience with commercial roles with Marriott in the USA as well as operational leadership roles in his homeland South Africa.
Da Silva said: “I am honoured to take on the role of general manager at The Cumberland Hotel London, a property renowned for its rich history and vibrant presence in the heart of the city. I look forward to working with our incredible team to deliver exceptional new and legacy experiences for our guests, foster a culture of excellence, and continue building on the hotel’s outstanding reputation.”
